It is an important seat of Sikh history and culture, Its temples - Hari Mandir and the Durgiana Mandir are places of pilgrimage for the devout Hindus and the Sikhs.

Dalhousie is the gateway of the Chamba Valley, is called the "gem of hills" and was named after Lord Dalhousie. The town was the summer headquarters of the 'Sahibs' during the days of the 'Raj'.

There are several places within and around Dalhousie that are good picnic spots. Dainkund, Khajjiar, Chamba, Palampur, Baijnath, Bir, Billing, Triund, Dharamsala, etc. are some of the prominent places that attract tourists.

Dharamshala stands at the foot of Dhauladhar and has a magnificent view of snowy peaks, deodar and pine forests, tea gardens and beautiful hills. The snow line is perhaps more easily accessible at Dharamshala than any other hill station in India. Dharamshala now really has become international, with a number of Tibetan settlements and the residence of Noble Laureate the 'Dalai Lama'.
