Legend Of Chintala Venkata Ramana Swamy Temple
It is believed that Lord Parashurama lived and performed penance here by worshipping Lord Siva. There is an underground water stream that trickles into the Garbha Griha, where the Siva Linga was consecrated. This Chintala Venkatramana temple is of 6th century and belongs to the Vijayanagar period. Pennar river is at a distance of 1 km from the town and there is temple of Lord Shiva called Bugga Ramalingeshwara Temple. It is a remarkable temple for a lingam on a pedestal, constantly filled with water from a small spring. The Bugga Ramalingeswara Temple faces the west and is more ancient.
This place was called Bhaskara Kshetras and consists of so many palm trees hence was called Tamlapalli (Tati Vanain) and it was renamed as Tadpatri. The icon of the Lord is uncut and roughly formed and hence it is popular as Swayambu or self manifested. There is the Chintala Venkataramana Temple with its lofty gopura in the heart of town. It is a beautifull temple of Lord Venkataramana. This 6th century temple has great work on the walls and pillars of the Mandapams and belongs to the Vijayanagar period.
