Legend Of Tirunakkara Mahadeva Temple

The king of Kottayam, a very pious and an ardent devotee of Shiva Every month he visited the Vadakkunnathan temple at Trichur to worship. In his oldage, he could no longer undertake the long journey to Trichur. During one such visit, he prostrated himself before the Lord and weeping, he thought to himself that death would be preferable to living without worshipping Vadakkunnathan. That very night Lord Vadakkunnathan appeared before him and consoled him stating that he need not visit Trichur any more and He, the Lord, would appear in the Tirunakkara hill. The king on his way back got down at Vaikom and worshipped at the Mahadeva temple there. There he met a Brahmin named Perapparambu Nambudiri. He was so poor that the king took pity on him and brought him along with him to Kottayam where he lived happily. The temple here is dedicated to Mahadeva.
