Legend Of Shankara Simhasana Kollur

The Acharya was passing through the Kollur region after worshipping Lord Mahabaleshwara at Gokarna and Lord Harihareshwara at Sankaranarayana. He saw an elderly Brahmin couple grieve over the death of their child. Even as Adi Sankara was touched by the tragedy, He heard a heavenly voice say that mere sympathy without any help in such a situation is of no use. Sri Sankara invoked the Almighty to come to the rescue of the bereaved couple. No sooner did he offer prayers than the dead child regained life to the pleasant surprise of the couple. Adi Sankara realised the presence of Devi Shakti in the area and started singing Her glory. These popular shlokas are known as Kalaarohana.
