The Navagraha Circuit temples in Tirunelveli district is referred as Navakailasam (Navakailayam). The Southern state of Tamil Nadu has uniqueness of having 2 Navagraha Temples Circuit, one at Tanjore/Kumbakonam Districts and the 2nd one in Tirunelveli district. While the Tanjore/Kumbakonam Circuits Navagrahas are temples for each of the Nine Grahas (Planets) where the residing deity is the Graha, the uniqueness of the circuit in Tirunelveli district is that the Grahas themselves are not the residing deity. It is the Lord Shiva who is worshipped as the particular Graha in each of the nine temples.

It is common knowledge of devotees that Lord Shiva controls the planets and one would find Navagrahas Sannithi only in Shiva temples, and Planets draw their power from the Lord .Since the Lord is the presiding deity at each of these temples for Navagrahas, they are commonly referred or called as Navakailasam.
