About Place

Situated at an altitude of 2,165m, this unpretentious village, Sarahan is tucked away in the foothills of the Himalayas. This gorgeous quite place in the Sutlej valley offers some breathtaking views of the Shrikhand and other snow-clad peaks of the region. It is also considered as an important pilgrimage centre by the Hindus because of the famous Bhimakali Temple. The most unique feature of the wooden Bhimakali Temple complex is the hill architecture - an amalgam of the Hindu and the Buddhist styles. It houses the 200 year old image of the goddess Bhimakali in gold. The smaller temples built in the shikhara style have heavier woodcarvings and silver repouss work. This unspoilt little village is also a starting point for some interesting trekking and hiking trails, one of which leads to a small zoo, housing a variety of fauna. An ideal place for those who want to get away from the flashy city lights and the cliched tourist resorts
