Festival Celebrated In Minin Sabarimala Temple

In addition to the daily poojas offered to Lord Ayappa, Ganesha, Devi and the Naga devtas, special poojas are performed during the festivals. All important Hindu festivals are celebrated at the temple and special poojas are performed on these days. "Pankuni Uttiram"- the birthday of Shree Ayyappa, Prathista dinam, Vishu(New Year)- April 14, Onam, Ganesh chathurthi, Vijaya Dashami, Deepawali are some of the special festivals. Special poojas are also arranged for Lord Ganesha and Devi on all Tuesdays and Fridays and Ponkala for Devi once in a year. On these days many unmarried girls offer Mangala Suktha Pushpanjali to the wish fulfilling Devi.

In addition to the above festivals,the major festival celebrated here is Mandala Makara Vilakku Festival (Mid Nov to mid Jan.), which starts with the Mudhradhanam for the devotees who undertake pilgrimage to Sabarimala. Devotees visit the temple in large numbers during this season. Like Sabarimala, prasadams such as Appam, Aravana, etc are kept for sale. During the Mandala Vilakku season devotees can book Special Deeparadhana (Chirappu) on payment of Rs.1501/- only.

Rudrabhishekam, Sampoorna Narayaneeyam, Sarvaishwariya Pooja, Laksharchana, Bhagavata Prabhashanam, Aazhi Pooja, Navagraha Homam & Nakshatra Pooja, Pravachanams (Religious Discourse), Pallikkettu Procession, Mandala Vilakku, Makara Vilakku, different type of Cultural Programmes which can be presented at the temple complex, classical music programmes, dance programmes, Vedikkettu etc are the main attractive programmes.

Mudradharanam for those who are undertaking penance to visit Holy Shrine at Sabarimala is undertaken every year on Vrishikam 1, (Mid November), form 4.30 a.m. onwards.

Every year on 3rd Sunday of November, Sampoorna Narayaneeyam Parayanam followed with Annadanam is conducted. Every year on fourth Sunday of November, Rudrabhishekam is conducted.

Every year on 1st Sunday of December for enlightenment and world peace, Acharyan P.K.Vyasan conducts the Sarwaishwariya Pooja.

Every year on 2nd Sunday of December month, Laksharchana and Sastha Preeti programme is conducted. In Laksharchana, hundreds of devotees perform the Archana under the direction of Guruswamy and the Acharyan. Nearly 2500 devotees witness and participate in the Laksharchana and Annadanam (Sastah Preethi).

Every year in December on 3rd Saturday Night, Aazhi pooja is conducted for the devotees who perform penance and on 3rd Sunday Parayeduppu Programme is conducted.

Every year on 24th, 25th & 26th of December, H.H.Prabhakaranda Saraswaty Swamigal of Shree Ayyappa Sevashram Mankara conducts discourse on Kshethra Sankalpam and Hindu Thatwam. Navagraha Homam and Nakshtra Pooja are performed on that day.A large number of devotees participate in the poojas and listen to the Swamiji's Prabhashanam.

Every year on 25th Dec, the Pallikkettu Procession takes place. In which along with the Lord's chariot, many children walk, holding irrumudi or flags symbolizing papa and punya. The procession also incorporates the Nadaswaram, Kavadiyattam , Pampamelam ,Thalappoli, panchavadyam. All the participants chant Ayyappa mantras.
