Festival In Kapila Muni Temple

Middle of January every year, on Makar Sankranti day (winter season), thousands of pilgrims from all over India rushes to Sagardwip to have a holy dip at the confluence of the Bay of Bengal and river Ganga. Temple of Kapil Muni, legendary sage of Bengal, has been a well-known pilgrim centre of Bengal from the ancient years. The fair at Sagardwip, known as Gangasagar Mela, held on Makar Sankranti. Gangasagar Mela is the largest fair in West Bengal and the famous sentence could be heard from every Bengalese "Sab tirtha Bar bar - Gangasagar Ekbaar". Sagar Island (Sagardwip), hot spot for Hindu pilgrimage, crowded with pilgrims during Makar Sankranti.
